Through the Sistema Fellows Program, NEC has made a very significant contribution towards creating the next generation of arts leadership. Between October 2009 and May 2014, five classes of Fellows were challenged to re-imagine the potential of music education to transform the lives of children, especially at-risk children in this country's poorest communities. They embraced this challenge with idealism, passion, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit. Today, almost all of the Fellows are directly engaged in El Sistema-inspired programs or related enterprises.
“The Fellows are the single biggest asset and influence on the U.S. El Sistema-inspired movement” — Eric Booth, Arts Learning Consultant and Senior Advisor
NEC's support of the Sistema Fellows continues through the formation of the Sistema Fellowship Resource Center. The Resource Center is tasked with sustaining the cohort through promoting innovation and research projects, and providing professional development and networking opportunities.
