We greatly enjoyed having second year Fellow Marie Montilla visit us last month. In her new role as Artistic Director for a Boston-based El Sistema-inspired program known as OAMEC, she shared a presentation that she was developing for Arts in the Commonhealth: Transforming Space through the Healing Arts at Lesley University.
She also regaled us with tales from her time spent teaching in a nucleo in Venezuela prior to returing to the US to enroll in the Fellows Program. Here is a video of her orchestra that she shared with us.This is the first concert of Nucleo San Antonio's Infantil Orchestra. The performance was to given to thank the Mayor for providing the nucleo with new instruments.
And here is a video of an OAMEC rehearsal. These are violin students practicing "Haiti Cherie" (a traditional Haitian folk song) in Hyde Park in 2011.
